Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Chico Residents Directory collects, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. Collection is limited because the service is a reference to public rolls and directory collections in Chico, California. There is no user account, and the service does not store government records about you.

Information You Submit

A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the third-party provider that supplies the results. Our own servers do not keep a copy of those search entries. If you contact the operators, they receive the details in your message and use them to respond.

Routine Technical Logs

The host may record ordinary server information such as an IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time stamps. Those figures are reviewed in aggregate to maintain the service and understand which Chico directory pages are used. Cookies or similar tools may support basic analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement.

How the Data Is Used

The limited information is used to run the service, troubleshoot faults, measure traffic, and improve the pages. We do not sell visitor lists or create individual user profiles.

Outside Portals and Links

Chico Residents Directory links to Butte County and California records portals, Meriam Library collections, archives, and third-party search tools. The destination's privacy policy controls information submitted there. Sponsored search results are supplied by a separate company and are subject to that provider's terms.

Who May Receive Information

Hosting and technical service providers may process server logs while supporting the service. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above. Information is disclosed when valid legal process requires it, and not for unrelated purposes.

Security and Retention

The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for as long as the purposes above require. No account is offered, so this service does not hold a password or user profile that could be exposed.

People Under 18

The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent information, use the Contact page and we will delete it when appropriate.

California Privacy Choices

To the extent it applies, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Civil Code §§1798.100 et seq., provides rights to know or access, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit the use of sensitive personal information, and avoid discrimination for exercising a right. Global Privacy Control is a recognized opt-out signal. Because this service keeps very little, a request usually involves checking the contact mailbox and relevant server logs. Use the Contact page to ask.

The California Public Records Act (CPRA), Government Code §§7920.000-7931.000, governs records held by California state, county, and city custodians, not by this private service. An agency generally makes a determination within 10 calendar days, with a written extension of up to 14 additional days possible in unusual circumstances. Requests to remove or correct a public record must go to the office that holds it.

California's Safe at Home program, Government Code §§6205-6216, provides substitute-address protections for qualifying participants through the Secretary of State and enrolling agencies. Do not use a private reference page to try to defeat those protections. The CPPA's DROP service can send one deletion request to registered data brokers, but it does not delete underlying government records.
