About Chico Residents Directory

No current book lists every Chico household. Useful directory evidence is spread across the Butte County Assessor, the Clerk-Recorder, elections records, court files, and the library shelves holding historic city directories. Chico Residents Directory brings those starting points together so a name, street, or old address can be matched to the right office or collection.

Why This Reference Exists

Printed Chico directories no longer serve as a current household list, but the underlying records remain in separate systems. The Butte County Assessor and Clerk-Recorder hold parcel and instrument information, while election and court records have their own access rules. Meriam Library and the Chico Branch preserve historical directories, newspapers, maps, and local collections.

That split sends a researcher to more than one office. Chico Residents Directory gathers the relevant portals, collection years, office contacts, and limits in one place. It does not replace a custodian's record or turn separate records into a single roster.

What the Pages Point To

  • Different search angles: the Chico street directory for address-keyed records, the Chico city directory collections for historical research, and the Chico resident lookup for one-person verification
  • Record custodians: the Butte assessor, recorder, elections office, Superior Court, Public Health vital-records desk, and Meriam local-history collections, with additional official references for Business Search, CDCR CIRIS, and PACER pricing
  • Practical methods: tracing an address to an APN and deed, reading an old directory entry, and pairing dated records without treating one clue as proof
  • California access rules: the California Public Records Act (CPRA), Government Code §§7920.000-7931.000, the CCPA at Civil Code §§1798.100 et seq., the voter-file request process and application rules, and the Safe at Home protections in Government Code §§6205-6216

Where the Limits Are

This is a privately operated reference site, not a Chico office, Butte County department, California agency, court, or library. Public information may be used only for lawful purposes. The site cannot:

  • Confirm whether a particular person currently lives in Chico
  • Retrieve, certify, correct, or alter a record for a requester
  • Add anyone to or remove anyone from a voter roll, parcel record, or database
  • Provide legal advice about a record, dispute, or request
  • Promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail remains current

Only the custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Do not use anything found here to stalk, harass, or harm anyone, or for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or another FCRA-regulated decision.
